Katrina at Callapidder Days is at it again with another seasonal reading challenge —and another super cute button. I did the Spring Reading Thing and thought it was a lovely, no pressure challenge. The Fall Into Reading Challenge is more of the same. Here are the basic guidelines.
- Make a list of books you want to read (or finish reading) this fall. Your list can be as long or as short as you’d like. (Also, feel free to modify your list during the challenge if it’s not working for you.)
- Write a blog post containing your list and submit it to this post using the Mr. Linky below.
- Get reading! The challenge goes from September 22nd through December 20th.
- Check out other participants’ lists and add to your own to-read-someday pile!
- Write a post about your challenge experience in December, telling us all about whether you reached your goals and how Fall Into Reading went for you. But remember: this is a low-pressure challenge that should be fun. As long as you do some reading this fall (and enjoy it!), that’s good enough for me.
Pretty easy, no? So here are the books I'm planning on reading for this challenge. Most of the books have been chosen to fulfill other reading challenges—I'm so close on so many challenges and time is running out! Argh! Also, in a way, it is a sneak peek at what you'll be seeing reviewed on this blog in the coming months.
- The Unlikely Disciple: A Sinner's Semester At America's Holiest University by Kevin Roose —This is a book I found over at Alyce's blog, At Home With Books, and have been wanting ever since. So when I won the Summer Vacation Reading Challenge, I used my winnings to download it to my Kindle. I'm acutally about 35% of the way through it now and loving it. This also counts as part of my eBook Reading Challenge. COMPLETED
- Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger —Another Kindle book I bought with my Summer Vacation Reading Challenge spoils. This is just purely for me. I loved loved loved The Time Traveler's Wife so of course I have to read this. I've been trying to stay away from reading too much about it. I want to go in with a "blank slate." COMPLETED
- Silverstein & Me by Marv Gold —Paula Krapf at Author Marketing Experts was kind enough to offer me this memoir for review. As a lover of memoirs and a huge fan of Shel Silverstein's The Giving Tree and his poetry books, I was quick to accept her kind offer. COMPLETED Read my review here!
- The Chosen by Chaim Potok —I have this book to read as part of my Take A Chance Challenge. This is my birth year book choice (1967). COMPLETED Read my review here.
- Q&A by Vikas Swarup —This book is doing double-duty. It is my Q book for the A to Z Challenge AND I'm reading it for my Movie-Book Comparsion challenge. (It was the basis for Slumdog Millionaire.) COMPLETED
- The Sunday List of Dreams by Kris Radish —This was the book I found for the Take A Chance Challenge Random Book Selection. You may recall that I was in mortal peril of landing on Vikram Seth's A Suitable Boy, which is like 6 inches wide. Thank God I didn't get that book or it would be the only book I'd have time to read! DID NOT FINISH
- Marley & Me by John Grogan —This was my Public Spying Book that I found for the Take A Chance Challenge. It will give me a chance to see what all the fuss was about! COMPLETED Read my review here
- Z for Zachariah by Robert C. O'Brien—This was picked as my Z book for the A to Z Challenge. I actually knew nothing about it, so you can magine my great relief when I saw that Jackie at Farm Lane Books Blog recently listed it as one of her favorite books! Score! COMPLETED
- Big Ball of Blame by Miriam Zellnik —This is my Random Word entry for the Take A Chance Challenge. My word was "blame." COMPLETED
- The Tibetan Book of the Dead —This is my final eBook Reading Challenge book and a late addition to the books I'm reading to honor my father after his passing in August.
- Esquire Presents: What It Feels Like To... —This is just a fun book I'm reading for pure pleasure. COMPLETED
- Some book starting with an X! I need one more book to finish off the A to Z Challenge and X is my final letter to locate a book for. Any ideas for me? I ended up picking The Xibalba Murders by Lyn Hamilton. COMPLETED
I'm also trying to read a play and a essays from a collection for a challenge but I'm still working on that. I was a bit too cavalier about these reading challenges ("Oh...I'll have plenty of time") but now that it is coming down to the wire, I really need to get going!

Xombies by Walter Greatshell?
good luck on that! I'll look through my stack and decide if I'll play along. thanks for the heads up.
X-files? ;)
I did the spring reading challenge but then I forgot to do the write up at the end. I still have to catch up on some reviews. Once winter is here I will read more because I won't be going outside much at all. ;)
great choice of books and good luck. I'm using fall reaching challenge to finish "your" challenge. Slowly but surely. But eep - november just around the corner.
I read Xenocide by Orson Scott Card but it wasn't my favorite. I see a lot of Xena books on amazon. :)
I'm glad to see that you're enjoying The Unlikely Disciple.
I haven't forgotten the take a chance challenge, but have been bummed that I haven't been able to fit more choices into my reading schedule.
Hmmm. This one sounds really easy! I'm actually doing respectably well on my challenges, with the exception of one, which I blew this month. I signed up for the Random Reading Challenge to help me clear my shelves the latter part of the year, and I've only read one! Maybe in November and December????
I happen to think that naming books in ADVANCE constitutes a form of pressure, so I don't do challenges! But I'm happy to root for everyone else!
Also, re Alyce's comment, Xenocide is part of a series, and while it might stand alone, it's probably not too good outside of it. I'd vote for Xena!
What a great selection of books! I look forward to your thoughts on Z for Zachariah and I'm sure you'll love Q&A and Her Fearful Symmetry. Enjoy your books!
Great list! I want to read most of those books too. Good luck with the challenge!
Good luck with the challenge! I agree with Rhapsody about the pressure thing in naming books. The WWII challenge that I thought would be a piece of cake is the one that is hanging me up. I still have 2 to go. Where did the year go? Sheesh! it seems like it was only June yesterday.
I've never really been interested in doing a challenge, so many of them seem to commit you to reading x number of book in x amount of time, this one looks a bit different so perhaps I should consider it.
Dang you, now WHY would you intentionally dangle another challenge in front of my nose? You KNOW how I am about stuff like that....it's like crack for bibliophiles, LOL!
ps....Love the books you've chosen!
Awesome list. Don't fall over in a faint, but I actually resisted the fall challenge this year! See, I can be strong . . . sometimes.
