Dare to be a Reader CHALLENGE!!! (Take Another Chance Challenge)

Welcome to the Dare to be a Reader Challenge. This is a new challenge that runs for six months. It starts on the 1st of April and ends on the 31st of October.

Basic Rules:

1. You need to read one book a month.
2. You must work withing the time frame of April 1st to October 31st.
3. You will need to respect each month’s instructions and procedures for choosing a book.
4. You will share your results and comments here. Others may want to read the books you read and want to ask your insight and opinion.

Instructions and Procedures:

1. Pick a book based solely on it’s cover:

Select a book purely based on its cover design. Document your initial thoughts on what the book might be about, then read the book and compare your initial assumptions to the actual content.

2. Pick an author with the same initials as yours:

Choose an author whose initials match yours and delve into one of their works.

3. Random word in the title:

Use a random word generator to generate a single word. Locate a book with that keyword in its title, read it, and share your thoughts.

4. Title Word Count:

Access the True Random Number Generator tool (on the Random.org website).  Set the minimum setting to 1 and the maximum setting to 5. Generate a number and select a book whose title has that many words. For instance, if you get the number 2, look for a book with a two-word title.

5.  New Genre:

Browse a list of literary genres and select one you’ve never explored before. Pick a book from that category and write about your experience. If you’ve read from every genre, choose one that is the least familiar.

6. Phoning an Author:

Scan a directory for a last name and find an author who shares that surname. Read one of their books and jot down your thoughts. (Feel free to re-pick if the surname is too uncommon!)

7. Random Bestseller

Go to the True Random Number Generator and get a year between 1950 and 2008. Now go to Hawes.com/pastlist and click on the year that Random.org generated for you. Now find the bestseller list for the same week as your bithday. The list will open up in front of you. Select one of the bestsellers on that list. Read that book and write about it.

8. Public Spying:

Observe someone in a public space engrossed in a book. Discover what book they’re reading and then read the same one. Write about your thoughts.

9. Movie Book Comparison:

Pick a book that has a film adaptation you haven’t seen. After reading the book and watching the movie, write about both experiences and compare the two.

10.  Random Library Book Selection:

Head to the library and place yourself in a section that interests you (e.g., Fiction, Non-Fiction, Mystery). Create random navigation directions for yourself (e.g., fourth row, first shelf, sixth book). Follow your guidelines to find a book, read it, and express your thoughts.
